After a year’s effort, the Film Library published Film Encyclopedia. With over 1000 pages and illustrations, the encyclopedia collects and defines domestic and foreign film terms.

HSU Li-kong led a team to Hong Kong to attend the 1986 Taiwan Film Festival organized by Hong Kong Arts Centre.

The annual World Classics program was held at the auditorium of the Student Activity Centre at National Taiwan University, screening 10 world classics, including Diary of a Country Priest, Elevator to the Gallows, and Resurrection. (Due to protests from the Film Trade Association, tickets were not sold to the general public.)

Winners of the 3rd Film Appreciation Awards were announced: Best Picture went to The Time to Live and the Time to Die; Best Director went to HOU Hsiao-hsien; Best Screenwriter was awarded to both HOU Hsiao-hsien and CHU Tien-wen; Best Actor went to CHEN Bor-jeng for Super Citizen; and Best Actress was presented to YANG Hui-shan for Kuei-mei, a Woman.

The Golden Horse International Film Festival was held at the Marshal Theater and Shin Sheng Theater for a total of 28 days, screening 72 films from 16 countries.
