The Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute strives to promote "cultural accessibility" of audiovisual heritage as well as to raise public awareness and knowledge about it. Through forward-looking and innovative activities that incorporate local characteristics, the Institute promotes equal cultural access for all ethnic groups and different audiences to avoid the resource disparity caused by external conditions and to achieve the goal of cultural equality. Since 2017, the Institute has been promoting the "Taiwan Cinema Village Initiative", which combines local initiatives to bring films to the community. In 2018, the "Cinema at the End of the World" began to tour the countryside and outlying islands, bringing the aesthetics of cinema to all corners of Taiwan. Besides making great efforts to establish a solid foundation for domestic films, the Institute has also been actively involved in overseas promotion and collaboration. Since 1992, the Institute has participated in multinational organizations such as the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), exchanged collections with Korean and French film archives, and worked together to promote Taiwan film programs. After commencing digital restoration, the Institute’s restored films have been selected for top film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and Locarno film festivals, making Taiwan classics visible worldwide. The promotion of Taiwan cinema covers contemporary works, and the Institute has worked with diplomatic missions and private organizations to plan a number of special screenings to expand the horizon for Taiwanese films globally. In 2020, the Institute also applied to join the International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT/IFTA) with the hope of building a cultural bridge through international networks to present the richness of Taiwan's television and broadcasting legacy to the world.
