For cinephiles around the world, it is difficult to miss the French documentary filmmaker, multimedia artist, film essayist, film critic and poet who had left a rich literary and audiovisual oeuvre. The year 2021 and 2022 mark the centennial of his birth and the tenth anniversary of his passing. With eight carefully selected works of his, we hope to once again explore the creative trajectory of this time traveler in cinema.

Chris MARKER (1921-2012), best known for his distinctive audiovisual style and use of still images, was a French writer, photographer, documentary film director, multimedia artist and film essayist. He is usually associated with the Left Bank subset of the French New Wave that occurred in the late 1950s and 1960s. He used filmmaking as a way to explore the social and political scenes of his time and developed an unique essayistic style. His work is imbued with recurrent themes of time, memory and nostalgia.
