大俠霍元甲於上海被毒殺，弟子陳真趕回精武館奔喪。日本武術研究社竟送來「東亞病夫」匾額挑釁，陳真義憤填膺，遂到日本武社把眾人打個落花流水。為息事寧人，陳真聽從師兄勸告，打算離開上海，豈料臨行前他發現師父的死竟和日本武社有關，於是留字出走，準備單挑日本武館。

運用中國和日本兩國武術門派強化民族對立，強化李小龍作為民族英雄的形象。《精武門》的武打場面比《唐山大兄》更緊湊、壯烈；所有人圍殺李小龍，他則首次施展雙截棍，血肉的撞擊聲響隨著打鬥此起彼落，製造強烈的壓迫感，銀幕魅力再次昇華。

Chen Zhen arrives in Shanghai to attend the funeral of his teacher, famed boxer Ho Yuan-chia. During service, the Japanese Martial Arts Association sends an insulting banner as a sign of ''respect,'' enraging Chen. To return the favor, Chen stirs up trouble at the Japanese Association, forcing him to flee from the authorities. However, the discovery of Ho Yuan-chia's true death hinders his departure, and he decides to settle the score once and for all.
