蔡導自小是吃香港流行文化的奶水長大，可說是深受影響，他以行者的緩慢注視回禮，即便這大都會從來就沒有平靜過，許冠傑是他的少年偶像，片尾便放了他的歌。

Having grown up with Hong Kong's popular culture, Tsai decided to pay homage by making a "Walker" film, contrasting the Walker's slowness with the frenzied pace of Hong Kong's cosmopolitan life. The film ends with a song by Hong Kong actor and singer Samuel Hui, who was Tsai's idol during his youth.

2012 年台灣的林友寒和廖偉立威尼斯建築雙年展的作品，邀請蔡導創作影像加入，蔡導利用兩位建築師在台灣的預展空間，以行者的概念拍攝了兩支短片：《金剛經》與《夢遊》。蔡導說，凝視電鍋煮飯，使他想起母親臨終的臉，她最後吐出的一口氣。

In 2012, Taiwanese architects Michael Lin and Liao Wei-li invited Tsai to make short films for their exhibit at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Using the space at their preview exhibition in Taiwan, Tsai made two short films, Diamond Sutra and Sleepwalk, using the "Walker" concept. Tsai said that gazing at the steam rising from a rice cooker reminded him of his mother's face as she lay dying, exhaling her final breath.

2013 年，受電影人陳翠梅邀請參與「南方來信」短片合集拍攝計畫，行者回到蔡導的故鄉，馬來西亞古晉七層樓，他整個的快樂童年，如今物是人非，小時候幫他洗澡餵食的大姐姐也老了。

In 2013, Tsai was invited by filmmaker Tan Chui Mui to make a short film for an anthology film, Letters from the South. Tsai returned to his hometown in Kuching, Malaysia and made a "Walker" film at his childhood home. The seven-storey flat which contained the happy memories of his childhood is now occupied by strangers. His old neighbor, an older girl who used to bathe and feed him when he was a child, has also grown old.

2014 年，受法國馬賽藝術節邀請拍攝。蔡導說，馬賽他不熟，他只是遊客。那年的夏末，他拍的是地中海美麗的陽光，同時找來曾演出《新橋戀人》的著名演員丹尼拉馮與小康搭配演出。

In 2014, Tsai was invited to make a film for the Festival de Marseille. Tsai, who was not familiar with Marseille, decided to make a film as a tourist, capturing the beautiful Mediterranean sunshine in the late summer of that year. He also invited famous French actor, Denis Lavant, to appear alongside Hsiao Kang.

行者如行禪般的步履，終於讓我們在時光的恆常流失中，看見太平洋、看見天空、看見海鳥、看見沙是黑色的、看見冬天寒雨中升起的捕鰻苗聚落、看見林投樹的千迴百轉、看見堆得像山的漂流木，還有一棟剛剛蓋起來的水泥房子，似乎，行者暫時有了落腳處。

In the constant passage of time, the Zen-like footsteps of the Walker has finally allowed us to see the Pacific Ocean, the open sky, the seagulls, the black sand, an eel-catching settlement that arose in the cold winter rain, the twisting branches of the Pandanus, flotsam piled up like mountains, and a newly constructed cement house, which seems to offer a temporary place of rest for the Walker.
