1980 年春天，急促的電話鈴聲劃破沈默，月刊作家韓基柱正在寫作越戰故事，卻接到昔日戰友邊進洙的詭異來電。在錯置的時空，對方喊出他從未忘記的名字與軍階，不曾消散的死亡陰影，轉眼將他拉回十年前的恐怖情景。於此同時，學生開始在街頭鼓譟，那些在越南未完的殺戮宿怨，也將在此劃下句點。

本片改編自安正孝的同名小說，宛如韓版《越戰獵鹿人》，藉六、七〇年代韓國出兵參與越戰的歷史，重探美援冷戰下的威權體制，以及經濟上實現「漢江奇蹟」的社會變遷。不同時間點的多重倒敘，不僅呈現戰爭創傷後遺症的主觀感知，更透過軍人與民眾、施暴與受暴的弔詭換位，指出戰爭罪行與國族意識的共構。

South Korea, 1979. An alcoholic novelist, scarred by his traumatic year as a volunteer soldier in Vietnam, is given a commission to write a book about the Korean soldiers who fought in the conflict. As he immerses himself in the project, he is bombarded by harrowing flashbacks, reliving the brutality and deception that stripped away his innocence.
