山林響起如怨如慕的歌，夜宿酒館的人陷入回憶。自幼失親的東浩被說唱藝人收養，與其養女松花一同學藝，表演傳統曲藝「盤索里」維生，總是由他擊鼓，為她清亮的歌喉伴奏，直到他受夠貧困與養父的苛責，一氣之下離去。多年之後，當他探問兩人行蹤，卻得知雙目失明的松花獨自歌唱流浪......。

本片改編自李清俊短篇小說，以盤索里的南方流派為名。全景長鏡頭之間縈繞不斷的歌曲，將全羅南道風景的四季變化、社會動盪中人心的明暗曲折，與〈春香歌〉、〈沈清歌〉等傳統曲目互文參照，探索韓國文化的「恨」之悲劇美學，在哀傷吟唱與流離歲月共振間，追尋當代的國族認同。

The film follows Youbong, a devoted pansori musician, who travels with his adoptive children to perform this traditional form of musical storytelling. As they journey through the country, Youbong is committed to preserving this ancient art amidst Western influences. The film uses evocative music and landscapes to embody the complex emotions of a bygone era, becoming the highest-grossing Korean film of its time.
