A fugitive escapes guards and saves a drowning heiress, who invites him to her mansion. Her suitor, unhappy with the guest, plots to remove him while a detective arrives. Can the fugitive handle this? Chaplin rose to fame after transitioning from theater to film and received extensive resources from Mutual. He considered this period the happiest of his career, and this film is often regarded as his best from that era.
