Legendary surveillance expert Harry Caul can capture conversations even in noisy environments. However, a crucial dialogue he overhears forces him into a moral dilemma: revealing it could endanger a couple's lives, while keeping it might destroy his own reputation and safety. Inspired by Antonioni's Blow-Up, Francis Ford Coppola completed this project with substantial funding from The Godfather's success. Starring Gene Hackman as a reclusive expert trapped in obsession, the film won the Palme d'Or, while The Godfather Part II won the Oscars.
