來自23世紀的未來人為了阻止哥吉拉殲滅將來的日本，請求日本人回到1944年，帶走魯爾德島上殘存的恐龍，並移送至戰後美國核彈試爆範圍以外的海域。時光機帶著一位作家、一位超能力少女及古生物學家，順利完成任務。當他們再次返回原來的時空，哥吉拉消失了，取而代之的卻是更棘手的威脅——翱翔空中的猛獸「王者基多拉」。

當年《哥吉拉 VS 碧奧蘭蒂》恰巧與《回到未來》同時上映而票房慘敗。製作人田中有幸為了進行市場調查而觀賞了《回到未來》，進而發想出《哥吉拉 VS 王者基多拉》中的時空穿越元素。

"Futurians" from the 23rd century travel back in time to 1992 Japan with desperate motives. Claiming that Godzilla will wipe out Japan by 2204, the Futurians send a group of elites back to 1944 Lagos Island to search for the surviving dinosaur and remove it before the island is irradiated. With success, they return to find a world without Godzilla, but soon realize they’ve lost their only advantage against King Ghidorah.
