書生何雲青前往經略府，抄寫「大手印」經超度亡靈，怪事卻接連發生。王婆設宴安排女兒樂娘演奏樂曲，一夜醒來二人卻同床共枕，只得娶其為妻。原來她們是為偷取經書的陰間厲鬼，番僧試圖阻撓卻不敵妖術，偕同道長聯手。雲青移居途中結識了另一對鬼母女莊夫人及依雲，從此夾陷於僧道鬼怪的角力鬥法與人鬼間的愛戀迷情。

A young scholar is sent to an old fort in a remote town to transcribe a Buddhist sutra said to have immense power over the dead. Following a string of mysterious events, and a night of feasting, the scholar wakes to find a young woman, Melody, in his bed. Convinced they have spent the night together, and wracked by guilt, the scholar marries Melody, only then to meet another mysterious beauty, Cloud,  who is determined to save him from the malicious ghosts that haunt the fort.
