A down-on-his-luck gambler meets a fast-talking hustler in a smoky L.A. card room, and the two form a loose bond over a shared addiction to the thrill. Riding waves of luck from racetracks to Reno casinos, they chase quick wins, hang out in clubs, and escape deeper truths. In this jazz-like dramedy, Altman captures the chaotic pulse of 1970s gambling culture, where friendship is fleeting, reality blurs, and every streak has its price.
