千禧年前夕，一名落魄中年男子重遊年少時舊地，踏入鐵軌迎向疾駛而來的火車，痛苦嘶吼：「我要回到過去！」，時光自此逆行。以倒敘結構展開六個章節，回溯他在窮困潦倒之前，曾是意氣風發的商人、參與刑求的警察、捲入血腥鎮壓的年輕軍人，以及單純快樂的大學生，卻因造化弄人而步步走入絕境......。

全片緊扣南韓七〇年代末以降的社會動盪和政經發展，宛如剝開光鮮表皮下的結痂，從小人物視角透析金融危機、腐敗威權、光州屠城等歷史暗瘡，描述軍事獨裁體制下主角如何被馴化成有毒的暴力機器，以薄荷糖隱喻純真的失落，哀悼國族難癒之殤。

The film follows the life of a broken man who ends his life in despair, and unravels his story in reverse. Starting from his tragic suicide, the film traces his life back through key moments: as a failed investor, a corrupt police officer, a soldier, and finally, an innocent youth. Set against the backdrop of South Korea's turbulent history, from the 1980 Gwangju Uprising to the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, the protagonist's personal descent mirrors the nation's own traumas.
