來自台灣的林黛玉至新加坡豪門賈府作客，初識遊手好閒的富家子弟賈寶玉，薛寶釵也自美國前來，三人形成微妙的三角關係。事實上賈家早已家道中落，徒留門面，終日沉迷賭馬，希冀發財翻身。王熙鳳企圖湊合寶玉和寶釵，謀取薛家財富。就在寶玉和寶釵的新婚之日，黛玉決定返回台灣，寶玉該如何抉擇？

改編自中國四大古典名著《紅樓夢》，導演邱剛健別出心裁地將恩怨情仇轉譯至1970年代，正值經濟騰飛的新加坡。本片由亞洲電影資料館完成修復，團隊採用全球碩果僅存，存放於本中心的35mm拷貝進行數位掃描。由於膠卷損毀極其嚴重，現有技術已難以達成美學與技術並重的色彩復原，最終決定以黑白進行修復，讓消失多年的聲影重現於世。

In 1970s Singapore, the decline of the elite Jia clan is masked by horse racing and hedonism. Lin Dai-yu, who makes a visit from Taiwan, and Jia Bao-yu fall in love, but their bond is threatened by family greed and the arrival of cousin Bao-chai from America. Reimagining the Chinese classic, Chiu Kang-chien creates a unique relic of independent cinema. Restored in black and white from the last surviving 35mm print, this version recovers a rare, long-lost fragment of Singaporean film history.
