津川醫院院長之子浩三學成歸國，在歡迎會上與昔日戀人勝枝重逢。她原為白衣護士，後憑清亮嗓音轉職歌手，並以單親身份撫養幼女阿敏。兩人舊情復燃，浩三不顧門第差距執意求婚，卻遭家人刁難，要求勝枝不得攜女入門。愛情誓約與親情骨肉拉扯下，她該如何抉擇？

本片原著《愛染桂》多次搬上銀幕，影劇雙棲的鄭東山先將日片改編為新劇，再從舞台版本翻拍台語片，由石軍、游娟領銜主演，相較原作跨越階級、充滿錯過與誤解的苦戀，更強調母愛的隱忍犧牲，以及台語片常見的「孤女」情節。飾演白衣天使的玲玲、陳秋燕、鄭小芬等人以嗆辣的外放表演，打破日版保守的性別及階級框架，在幽默中烘托女性情誼；天才童星筱木蘭賺人熱淚的演出，亦成功演繹台式通俗劇的親情牽絆。

The son of a hospital director returns from abroad and reunites with his former lover at a welcome party.
