在成為法國新浪潮大師艾力侯麥御用剪輯師前，雪美蓮早已透過鏡頭，捕捉流散者在異鄉與故土間的徘徊﹑身分認同的掙扎與成長陣痛。本次放映的四部早期作品，包括首部長片《絲之影》，以及三部風格迥異的珍稀短片——《迷宮》﹑《安詳辭世》﹑《大加拿大成人禮》，雪美蓮藉由音畫，將個人經歷化為感性的詩篇。

從加拿大的公路洗禮、巴黎學生宿舍的夢囈，到面對死亡的靜謐凝視，她的影像如絲綢般細膩且充滿韌性。這些作品如遊走於東西方文化之間的記憶碎片，以鏡頭記錄其對自我身份的感知和探求。

Before her legendary tenure as Éric Rohmer's editor, Mary Stephen was already a "tailor of images," using her camera to record a series of rites of passage. This screening anchors her debut feature, Shades of Silk, with three rare shorts, spanning both geographical and psychological borders.

Stephen's flair for capturing the diaspora's drift between motherland and exile turns the struggles of belonging and the pangs of growth into sensory poems. Reweaving fragmented memories in the ebb and flow of sound and light, she pieces together a life textured by global upheaval and personal discovery.
