擁有東方面孔的華裔資深剪輯師雪美蓮，卻有著洋化姓氏：Stephen。她透過父親留下的筆記，深入鮮為人知的家族歷史，驚覺父母皆有著曾經隱姓埋名、真假難辨的過往：父親似乎是澳洲原住民漁民後裔；曾有著文學夢的母親，過去又似乎與英國小說家吳爾芙的家族成員在中國的戀情有著幽微牽連。

為了探尋「Stephen」之名的真偽，她翻找家庭電影與老照片，在那段殖民擴張與動盪的時代中，重新建構一段比現實更趨近真相的私密家族史。她在多重敘事中追問身分認同，探尋個體如何在離散的迷霧中，透過重寫歷史而重新翱翔，拼湊出跨越國境與世紀風雲的生命圖像。

Veteran editor Mary Stephen investigates a lifelong enigma: why does she possess a Chinese face but the Western surname "Stephen"? This personal story uncovers her parents' assumed names and hidden lives, from an Australian aboriginal lineage to a secret link with Virginia Woolf's nephew. Set against a colonial backdrop, the film reveals a history long obscured by the fog of displacement. Stephen navigates a maze of conflicting narratives, piecing together a profound cinematic portrait of identity and the resilience of the self.
