Refusing to comply with the company's new tactics in quality reduction for lower costs, shoe company executive Gondo Kingo has secretly set up a leveraged buyout to gain control of the company, mortgaging all he has. At night, an anonymous phone call requests an enormous ransom for the son of Gondo's driver, whom the kidnapper mistook for Gondo's boy. After several unsuccessful negotiations, Gondo is torn between his moral conscience and risking his future.
