華人工程師方立群赴美奮鬥多年，卻在職場遭白人主管歧視欺凌，憤而辭職後，他攜不諳中文的妻兒返鄉探親，與姊姊一家同住北京四合院。方家兒子自由不羈的美式作風，讓準備高考、苦讀英文的表妹心生羨慕，與她交好的男同學也因而自我質疑。方立群看年輕一輩在文化交流中激盪火花，拿美式足球在長城上奔馳，自己則尋返兒時記憶的老北京，細聽京韻大鼓的古老召喚……。

曾演出《尋人》、《半邊人》的王正方轉化移民經驗，在中國改革開放初期拍攝「首部中國境內製作的美國電影」，輕盈描繪東西文化衝突，罕見地捕捉了昔日北京的庶民日常，及六四事件爆發前的開明社會氣息，在彼時台灣新電影、中國第五代導演崛起的華語電影浪潮中，形成獨特的發聲位置。

They navigate unfamiliar traditions, crowded living spaces, and complex family dynamics. Set against the city's evolving landscape in the mid-1980s—where ancient customs meet modern high-rises—it dissects identity, belonging, and the ties that transcend borders.
