Folk singer Llewyn considers himself talented but unrecognized. Despite sending out demo albums, he has received no responses and is plagued by misfortunes. One morning, he loses his friend's cat and discovers he has gotten another man's girlfriend pregnant. Unable to endure New York's cold and string of bad luck, he decides to take matters into his own hands, setting off for Chicago to follow up on his demo, unaware that more bizarre events await him on the way.
