四〇年代日軍侵華期間，吳小惠在日本接受伊賀派忍術訓練，順利成為第一位中國女忍者。學成後她返回上海，得知父親被投靠皇軍的未婚夫李統所殺，為報國仇家恨，她廣邀各路女英雄加入除奸行列，歷經曲折情節，施展移形換步、飛天遁地、魅惑幻術等超凡絕技，在台灣八〇年代充滿動盪的脈絡下，延續「黑電影」剝削類型的女性復仇敘事。

Set in 1940s China under Japanese occupation, The Challenge of the Lady Ninja follows Xiao-Hui, trained in ninjutsu in Japan, as she becomes China's first lady ninja. Upon learning of her father's death, she returns to Shanghai to find her fiancé, Li Tong, has betrayed her and her country. Seeking revenge, she forms a group of female warriors to kill Tong, with abundant plot twists and supernatural feats, including teleportation, flying, changing form and illusion, driven by the turmoil of 1980s Taiwan.
