當天空與海洋因汙染渲染成墨，淤泥中的異形生物也悄然孵化，最終形成巨毒怪獸——黑多拉。帶著獨特的陰森氣息，幻變的形體，所過之處寸草不生，奪走無數生命。哥吉拉同為環境破壞的受害者，卻不再是反派，轉而為地球戰鬥，以堅實的身軀抵抗黑多拉的侵蝕。然而每一次的擊敗，卻助長黑多拉的強化，摧毀著末日來臨前的最後防線。

圓谷英二於1970年辭世，但東寶並未放棄哥吉拉，由第一次執導劇情長片的坂野義光接下重擔。以日本70年代環境公害為靈感誕生的黑多拉，搭配出場時難忘的電吉他配樂，形成了陰森狂野的一代奇片。

Nurtured by pollution, the venomous sea monster Hedorah roams the filthy grounds, killing lives with every toxic breath. Godzilla emerges to confront Hedorah, achieving an easy victory after blasting it into tiny flying pieces. Forced to retreat to the sea, Hedorah evolves and returns more deadly than ever, attacking Godzilla with ultimate determination to finish off its nemesis once and for all.
