《紅樓夢醒》，又名《新潮紅樓夢》。編導邱剛健將故事人物，搬至現代的新加坡，為時裝版的《紅樓夢》。賈家為新加坡豪門，來自臺灣的林黛玉至賈府作客，初識遊手好閒的富家子弟賈寶玉。薛寶釵也自美國前來，形成微妙的三角關係。事實上，賈家早已家道中落，徒留門面。終日沉迷賭馬，希冀發財翻身。王熙鳳企圖湊合寶玉和寶釵，謀取薛家財富。就在寶玉和寶釵的新婚之日，黛玉決定返回臺灣，寶玉該如何抉擇？

此片為1966年至1977年間，港臺電影公司《紅樓夢》競拍風潮下的產物。邱剛健將當年流行的愛情文藝、武打、喜劇及情色元素揉雜於片中，透過嘲諷式的對白，嬉鬧的遊戲態度，暗渡其前衛大膽的現代意識。並經由跳躍式的調度，周遊於人物與空蕩宅邸之間，映照出豪門家族的空洞心靈。本片原定由岳楓執導、邱剛健擔任編劇，後因前者退出，成了邱剛健首部擔綱導演的長片作品，演員多為毫無戲劇經驗的新人。影片完成後，僅於1977年1月在新加坡短暫上映。

CHIU, who wrote and directed the film, relocated the setting of the classical novel Dream of the Red Chamber to contemporary Singapore, which gives the film a fashionable appearance. The JIA family is a rich clan in Singapore. Taiwanese girl LIN Dai-yu (SU Sin-sin) comes to visit the JIA family and meets the idle preppy JIA Bao-yu (GAO Fong). Meanwhile, SYUE Bao-chai (YAN Jing-ling) from the States joins them and they fall into a love triangle. However, the JIA family is straitened and holds their wishes on winning racing horses to gain fortune. The boss in the JIA family arranges the marriage for JIA and SYUE to obtain dowries from the SYUE family. LIN decides to return to Taiwan on their wedding day. What will JIA do between these two girls?

From 1966 to 1977, there was a trend in making film adaptations of Dream of the Red Chamber. CHIU’s work is a peculiar one among all of these versions. CHIU involved popular film elements in that period. Thus, we can see acts of romance, martial arts, comedic plots, and even erotic scenes in it. CHIU  developed his bold cinematic ideas with ironic dialogues and a seemingly cynical attitude. Shifted between characters and the empty mansion, he uses jump cuts and mise-en-scene in his shots to demonstrate the void pervasive in the big clan. CHIU, designated as the screenwriter at first, took the directing job after the original director quit the project. Dream of the Red Chamber is his debut feature film, where he worked with a bunch of new actors. The film was only released in Singapore for a short time.
