民初北伐前後，孤兒婉君投靠姑媽維生。18歲的婉君和三位表兄弟伯健、仲康、叔豪，分別發展出愛怨情仇。
本片改編自瓊瑤短篇小說集《六個夢》中的〈追尋〉，闡述民國初年，女性在傳統與自由解放的交界中，面對婚姻的內心掙扎。這部作品成為1960年代第一波瓊瑤小說改編電影風潮的濫觴，唐寶雲「養鴨公主」的形象之外，再以「婉君表妹」深植人心，劇中童星巴戈、謝玲玲表現出色，飾演大哥的王戎更從此崛起影壇。

This film is based on a short story by Qiong Yao whose film adaptions took the world by storm in the 1960s. The time of the story sets in the 1920s, the first decade after the country was founded. This is a bitter love story among three brothers and their beautiful cousin. The film reveals the struggles of a woman facing modern liberation and stereotypes of traditional culture. It made the actress, Tang Pao-yun, be remembered not only as the Princess of Duckling, but also as the cousin Wanjun.The child actors, Bage and Xie Lingling, gave an outstanding performance. Also, Wang Jong, who plays the eldest cousin, has started his acting career ever since.
