小月自幼與養鴨能手的養父在貧苦農村過著簡樸生活，卻面臨跟著歌仔戲團賴活的親生哥哥朝富以一封遺書威脅養父，企圖將她帶走自組劇團；朝富看見在危機之中，小月與養父仍為彼此著想，良心發現而讓事態有了轉機……

編劇張永祥單純簡潔的故事架構和導演李行寫實主義的影像魅力，讓本片突破以往以農業改良為題的政宣劇情片窠臼，進一步具體說明了「健康寫實」的創作風貌。

The film portrays the daily life of Taiwan duck farmers in the 1960s. Xiaoyue leads a simple and happy life with her adoptive father, who is good at raising ducks. Her full brother, an actor of a Taiwanese opera troupe, threatens to take Xiaoyue away with him to start up his own business. To solve the crisis, the adoptive father sells all his ducks to support Xiaoyue’s life. The love from a father gives an important moral lesson to Xiaoyue’s brother and makes him repent of his misbehavior.

The concise structure of the screenplay by Zhang Yongxiang and the realistic images of Lee Hsing have made breakthroughs within the propaganda genre. This film embodies the spirit of Healthy Realism.
