自唐山遷居臺灣的陳姓夫婦經營一家中醫診所，隔壁則是西醫黃醫師一家。起初彼此相安無事，兩家的年輕人日漸生情看對了眼。直到陳太太至黃西醫診所提親，爆發了一連串本省外省、語言習慣、中西醫術的正面衝突，最後打破隔閡，兩家婚事順利談成。

本片是李行導演早期作品，也是王滿嬌初入影圈之作。當時臺語喜劇片盛行，片中充滿國臺語雞同鴨講的諧趣，亦刻劃李導演一向著重的親情倫理，透露出日後健康寫實影片氣味。

Dr. Huang is the owner of a clinic. One day, Mr. Chen moves in next door and runs a Chinese medicine clinic. In the beginning, the two families get along well with each other. As time goes by, Chen’s son and Huang’s daughter gradually like each other. However, when Mrs. Chen proposes their marriage to Dr. Huang, the conflicts between the families explode.

This film is the early work of director Lee Hsing, which shows the comedic atmosphere between Chinese and Taiwanese culture. Besides, it also draws attention to the ethical relationship that indicates the tendency for the genre of Healthy Realism in his later works.
